Almost Finished

Tomorrow is the last day of school!!! I am super excited. Today made me realize how much I need a break to repriortize my life. I was so overwhelmed this afternoon, and that led to a bad attitude, which led to a less than wonderful night at work. It's crazy how you can let one emotion get ahold of you and completely ruin your day. I can't wait to have a break and be able to recharge. I am really looking forward to having more time to spend in devotions and get my priorities back in order. But, for tonight I must stay focused for a few more hours. My 2 biggest finals are back to back tomorrow starting at 7:40. Ugh! I will be a very happy person tomorrow at 10:20am when this semester is completely behind me. :-) So it's off to spend the night with my biology book for me....

Still Alive..... Barely

I'm still here, but since school has started my life as I knew it has come to an end. :-) Over the past three weeks I have started college and a new job. I am working at the dining common at school as a potwasher! I'm going to try and start a new set of posts related to my job. Lots of stories to tell about washing pots!!! :-) So stay tuned. I work tomorrow from 4-7, so I'll try and post tomorrow night. We'll see. As for tonight, homework (and the insides of my eyelids) beckons.

Wisdom from Facebook

I was on Facebook for a little while tonight and I was looking at some pieces of flair that my friends had sent me. I came across one piece of flair that made me smile, so I thought I'd share it here.

"Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics."

Are you smiling yet? It's possible that this really isn't that funny, and I was only amused because it's 10:30 at night and I'm exhausted. I'm going to bed right now!

The Past 30 Days

I survived my media fast! Although, I must be honest and say that I wasn't as faithful to it as I should have been. The purpose of this fast was to redirect my focus from the unnecessary things in my life to my relationship with Christ, and I think that, to a small degree, I accomplished that goal.

Life has been super busy during the last 30 days. I spent almost two weeks with my grandparents. It was so nice to just have unhurried time to spend with them and just enjoy them. My Mimi (my Mom's mom) and I took a 3 day trip to LaFayette, GA to visit with my great grandma and her new husband. (I'll have to write a post about them one of these days, because they have such a sweet story. :-)) We had so much fun on our road trip! That was pretty much the highlight of the past 30 days, but mixed in with that has been several days of babysitting, a couple shopping trips with my best friend, a couple of slumber parties with my sister and her friends, and my sister's 11th birthday.

I'm kind of ready for school to start just so I can get back into a routine. I'm hoping to get up early tomorrow so I can start getting on a schedule to be up in time to get to my 8 o'clock class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Ugh!!! :-(

In God We Still Trust

This is really and truly my last post for a month. :-) I was just cleaning out my inbox so I won't have tons of messages to go through next time I check my email and I found this video. It's great, so I thought I'd share it here.

Media Fast

I got the idea from some friends of mine in Ohio and also from a book I am currently reading to go on a media fast. A comment in the book I am reading said that a good way to tell if you are addicted to something is to try and do without for 30 days. So, tomorrow I will begin my media fast. Here are my guidelines:

1. No recreational computer use (blogging, reading blogs, Facebook, checking email just for the sake of checking email, instant messenger, Youtube, and games)
2. No mp3 player use
3. Limited tv watching (Since usually our family time consists of watching a movie or tv show, this one would be kind of hard to give up, so I am going to limit my tv to only family time watching.)

The goal of this fast is to get rid of some of the distractions in my life and focus more on my relationship with God. So..... this is my last post for 30 days. Maybe I will be more consistent in writing in my old-fashioned pen and paper journal since I won't be able to blog my experiences. Maybe I will blog some of my journal entries from my the fast at the end of 30 days. We'll see........

How we spent our evening...... in the emergency room

My dad's been in Texas for the last two days for work related training and wasn't supposed to be home until midnight tonight. But, training ended early and he was able to get on an earlier flight and be back in town by 7:30. Well, a little after eight he called and told us he was fine but that he'd been in another wreck. So, we got to spend our evening traveling to and in the emergency room. Thankfully, he and his driver from the shuttle company were fine. (Although the driver could use our prayers as he was suffering from some pretty bad neck and back pain.)

They were on I-85, the main interstate around here when a ladder fell from a truck in front of them and got caught underneath the van they were driving in. They swerved onto the shoulder to get out of traffic when someone rearended them. They were so blessed to walk away as unscathed as they were. The ER doctor even said that most interstate accidents don't have people walk away from them. They were very blessed!

Oh, by the way, we got our replacement car from the wreck a couple of weeks ago back two days ago. Dad will not be driving it for awhile. :-)

Someday My Prince Will Come.....

Maybe one day my prince will be waiting on my doorstep. Today wasn't that day. Too bad! :-)

Kissin' this frog didn't turn him into a handsome prince. (I kind of looked like a frog kissing him though. ;-))

He is kind of cute.....

Taxes and Texas

Today I've been babysitting for a family that lives in my neighborhood. The two little ones are down for a nap and the four year old (P) and I are watching Robin Hood. When the movie got to the part where King George put all the poor people in jail for not paying their taxes, P wanted to know why the people were sad. I told him they were sad because the king put them in jail for not paying their taxes. Apparently taxes and Texas sound a whole lot alike because P then asked me if jail is in Texas. I tried to explain what taxes were and that the people were in jail because they didn't give the king money. P's response to that was, " They didn't pay the king so they had to go to Texas?" Sure, that works.... Texas is where the jail is. :-)
What a cute kid!

My 64 year old Grandpa :-)

We went over to my granparent's house for the 4th of July to have a cookout and go swimming. My grandpa went swimming with us for a little bit and we enjoyed watching him dive with his hat on. :-) (Sorry the video is sideways.)

I love my grandparents!

So Thankful

The beginning of this was week was really discouraging. My parents had been dealing with the insurance companies and it didn't sound like they were going to replace the car because it didn't have enough damage to be totaled. So we were going to be stuck with a brand new, wrecked and repaired car. (We were really going to end up with the short straw.:-)
Today, we got a call that they were going to total the car. YAY!!!!!! This is such a praise!Hopefully, we will have a new car within the next couple of weeks. I'll be sure to post pictures of car #2. Hopefully this car will last longer than four days! :-)

The Blessing of Family

I have been so blessed to grow up in a family where family bonds are considered extremely important. Every year my great aunt has a big Family Bash at her house up in the mountains. It's always held the weekend before the 4th of July. We honor all those in our family and also friends and acquaintances of ours who have served or who are currently serving our country in the armed forces. We have all sorts of extended family at our Bash. It is so great to get to see everyone and catch up on each other's lives. I am so thankful that I have a family that is so close!
My cousins from Florida are up here visiting for the week and are spending the night with me tonight. We have so much fun together. Right now we are watching Father of the Bride. I'm not sure how much longer I'll make it before I have to go to bed!! :-)

My Beautiful New Car

This past Tuesday my parents bought a brand new Toyota Corolla. It was absolutely beautiful, black with beige interior. I'll get to drive the car to school this fall after I drop my dad off at his work car. I will also be making payments to my parents to buy the car and when I graduate from school, the car will be mine. :-)

Well tonight, my beautiful car is no more....

Tonight, while we were driving to my granparents' house and getting ready to turn into their driveway we were rear-ended by a pick-up truck. I am so very thankful though that no one was hurt. God really worked out the details of the accident. I had been begging to drive all afternoon, but my Dad wanted to drive since he hadn't gotten to drive the car yet, so I wasn't driving when the accident happened. It also happened right outside my grandparents' driveway, so we had family there to help. Most importantly, no one was hurt. We were all a bit shaken, my sister and I had glass all in our hair and clothes, and my sis had some glass slivers in her foot. But, otherwise we are all fine.
I had just started this blog yesterday and I had no idea what I was going to post, but God chose to show me several blessings in the midst of a trial today. Please pray that everything will go well with the insurance company and the car will taken care of efficiently and quickly.
As a closing note I just want to say that being in a car will glass flying in all around you really gives you some serious perspective on life. I'm really going to try to stop letting unimportant things bother me and really focus on the important things in life.
